2025 has ushered in a new Presidential Administration and a new Congress who have both quickly gotten to work. A series of executive orders and legislation are already underway that have implications for human capital management, workforce development, economic development, public sector hiring and more.
To-date, skills-based hiring has largely been a bi-partisan issue, but what does the future of skills-based hiring look like in the public and private sector in a new policy environment? What implications or effects will current orders and legislation have on the labor market in general, and for talented workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) instead of a bachelors degree? What actions should skill-based hiring champions take to continue fueling the movement? And, importantly, where can people from across the political spectrum work together to advance shared goals?
In this previously recorded discussion, we engage a panel of leaders in the skills-based hiring movement – including Opportunity@Work’s Dr. Gina Rosen, Stand Together Trust’s Dr. Steven Taylor and Jobs for the Future’s Taylor Maag – to give us their thoughts and ideas on policy implications, next steps for the movement and what we can expect in 2025.
