As a TechHire Community Engagement Manager, Laura Faulkner supports the TechHire network of communities in their efforts to expand access to high-paying tech job and increase equity in hiring practices.

Laura is fascinated with all things workforce development and entrepreneurship – making an explicit commitment throughout her career to work on projects that create economic opportunity for overlooked and underserved communities.

Prior to joining Opportunity@Work, Laura served as Communications Manager and Program Associate at The Hitachi Foundation. Within this capacity, Laura made the business case for investing in the training and development of frontline workers and promoted business practices that created economic mobility for low-wealth workers. Laura played a key role in developing program strategy for the Foundation’s entrepreneurship program – including the creation and launch of the Entrepreneur Xchange, a resource library and video series for early-stage entrepreneurs.

As a native New Englander, Laura previously worked as a Research Associate for the Mosakowski Institute for Public Enterprise in Massachusetts and as a Policy Analyst for the Economic Progress Institute and Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council in Rhode Island. Within these roles, Laura analyzed state tax policy, researched demographic and economic trends, and developed comprehensive data dashboards for mid-sized cities in Massachusetts.

Laura volunteers for her local Community and Police Action Committee as part of an effort to improve relations between community members and law enforcement. She is also an Advisory Board Member to HeadsUp, Inc.

Laura holds a BA in Political Science and an MPA from Clark University. She lives outside DC with her husband and Quinn, a 90 pound rescue pup that thinks he’s a lapdog.
