About the role

As the Vice President of Product, you will develop the vision, architect the strategy, and lead the development of a cloud-based multi-sided labor marketplace designed to enable skills-based, inclusive hiring that reaches millions of Americans. With over 4,000 individuals already supported in landing well-paying jobs, the TechHire movement is demonstrating on the ground what an inclusive labor market can look like. A tech-enabled marketplace, with participation from employers, education providers, and individual job seekers, will enable our impact to scale to reach millions of individuals. 

Expanding access to career-path jobs within the innovation economy is not only a social imperative, but is now also a hot-button political issue attracting tremendous energy for action from high-profile players across sectors, including leading technology companies in Silicon Valley and beyond. Opportunity@Work is strongly positioned to the be the catalyst channeling this desire for action into a single scalable, tech-enabled solution.

As Opportunity@Work’s first VP Product, you will have a broad mandate to define the role of technology in our strategy, and the opportunity to leverage national partnerships to radically accelerate our progress towards our ambitious impact goals. 
Reporting directly to the President and Co-Founder, you will develop and grow the in-house product and engineering team and function to achieve Opportunity@Work’s mission. 

You will:

  • Align technology and product strategy to execute the organization's vision for a multi-sided labor marketplace designed for inclusive and skills-based hiring
  • Craft strategy for how we achieve that vision, including defining interfaces with a diverse array of relevant tools and players (e.g., job boards used by job seekers, applicant tracking systems used by employers)
  • Provide infrastructure decisions ensuring technical excellence, versatility and scalability of our engineering/architecting product solutions and managing delivery
  • Collaborate with teams across Opportunity@Work to further deepen our understanding of marketplace users – especially overlooked and underrepresented skill-seekers and job-seekers– and practice of user-centric design 
  • Define and execute the roadmap that will create first a marketplace MVP, and then chart the course from MVP to scale
  • Mentor our talented and passionate in-house product team to ensure personal and professional growth 
  • Manage and grow our product and engineering teams and conduct performance reviews
  • Manage business relationships with our partners and clients  
  • Review partners, platforms and tools to determine their relevance, usefulness and reliability  
  • Promote agile development, ensuring that product and engineering resources are effectively focused on high-impact, measurable experiments
  • Create and lead a technology advisory board for Opportunity@Work comprised of the best minds from the companies with most success in building multi-sided marketplace 

About you

You are passionate about using technology in service of the most pressing and complex social challenges. You  excel at translating ambitious goals into a product vision and defining and executing against product roadmaps. You are a seasoned leader with deep experience in leading agile product development teams, with a track record of building consumer products that reach and serve millions of users. 

You have a track record of demonstrating excellence across the following functions and skills:

  • Growing and leading product and engineering teams in high-growth environments, both in effectively bringing new products to market and driving it to scale
  • Leading strategically aligned and operationally efficient agile product development processes
  • Strategic smarts, including the ability to identify new opportunities, drive clarity, create focus, and make tough decisions in complex and dynamic contexts
  • Effectiveness in working closely with engineers to translate broad product vision into concrete technical needs
  • Technical proficiency to fully grok the engineering level-of-effort of different solutions and to find practical, efficient product development paths
  • User-driven approach demonstrated through past work on products users love, including effectively designing for users of diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds
  • Strong communication, influence and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Implement our technological vision throughout cross-functional teams
  • Develop and budget long-term technical roadmap

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced developer who will work with our small in-house product and engineering team to realize a vision of this multi-sided labor marketplace designed to enable skills-based, inclusive hiring that reaches millions of Americans. You will also provide technical leadership and direction to the organization while mentoring and building out the engineering team.

You will:

  • Take on a leadership role in the organization and work with the executive team to identify opportunities and needs in technology and development capacity.

  • Collaborate with technical and nontechnical teammates across Opportunity@Work, providing technical feedback and mentorship around best practices

  • Inform technical trade-offs and possible product paths for development strategy

  • Mentor and guide junior members of the development team

  • Develop technical solutions according to specification

  • Help translate broader product vision into possible technological solutions

  • Help interpret feedback from user testing sessions into actionable advice

About You:

You have experience with and a track record of demonstrating excellence across the following skills and technologies:

  • Front-end web development (HTML, CSS, Bootstrap)
  • Back-end data architecture (API design)
  • Object-oriented programming and at least one modern web framework (we use Ruby on Rails)

About the Role:

Opportunity@Work is looking to hire an outstanding professional with strong interest at the intersection of social entrepreneurship, education, and workforce development. The Director of Communications role is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong leadership and problem-solving skills, initiative, attention to detail, and the desire to use his or her professional skills to contribute to social impact at scale. This role reports to the CEO of Opportunity@Work.

The Director of Communications will be expected to hit the ground running and execute - leading strategic communications, marketing and brand strategy, and media relations for Opportunity@Work, and providing leadership and guidance to our growing communications team.

You will lead:

Strategic communications

  • Develop, implement, and deliver strategic communication and marketing plans, long and short-term goals, including methods of measuring the plan’s impact
  • Lead execution of the organization’s annual communications and marketing plan, social media strategy, media outreach, and communications calendar.
  • Counsel and advise CEO and Opportunity@Work team leaders on communications -- overseeing the development of consistent messaging across the organization to promote Opportunity@Work mission, vision, and values.
  • Lead and mentor our team’s communications professionals to help them achieve success and support team members’ in their professional development goals.
  • Develop key messages and content for new and existing Opportunity@Work initiatives, and strategies to communicate complex information to multiple audiences through a wide variety of communications platforms, including digital, print, social media.
  • Prepare for crisis communications response such as protocols for crisis communication management including off-hour phone trees to channel editors.
  • Ensure that Opportunity@Work is using cutting-edge tools, tactics, and strategies for promoting its work and building its brand.
  • Develop an evaluation framework to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the organization’s communications and marketing initiatives and determine opportunities for improvement and increased effectiveness.

Marketing and brand strategy

  • Develop cohesive brand, marketing and communication strategies for Opportunity@Work incorporating digital, print and social media channels.
  • Recommend, manage, and execute integrated marketing plans/programs and strategies to meet the organization’s objectives by leveraging best practices, market research, and data analytics.
  • Develop print and digital media plans that support the marketing plans for key programs and oversee the analysis of results.
  • Manage market research and campaign/program/event analysis used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation, and customer targeting.
  • Apply learnings about audiences and segments from the customer/visitor tracking studies on channel selection and messaging. Apply segmentation learnings to provide personalized communications, as well as ongoing benchmarking of best practice.

Media Relations

  • Write, review, and approve public-facing content including press releases, op-eds, blog posts, and other writing.
  • Prepare talking points for speaking engagements; coach staff and supports preparation for live/pre-recorded radio/ TV appearances.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Opportunity@Work’s strategic partners, consultants, and vendors relative to our communication needs.
  • Build relationships with media, influencers, and subject matter experts, and manage the organization’s media partnerships.
  • Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner, and secure interviews, editorial opportunities, and speaking engagements for Opportunity@Work senior staff.

In a lean startup environment, the intern should be confident in playing multiple roles as needed and exploring opportunities to add value. We are a small but rapidly growing team. As such, the intern will have access to and work alongside all members of the organization, from the most senior to most junior Team members. The intern will participate in key meetings and will have the opportunity to take on mini-projects of their own connected to larger team deliverables.

The communications intern will work with our Communications Team as well as other Team members to complete projects and special assignments. The candidate should be confident, well organized, mature and bring a range of additional skills, from research and analysis, to writing and content management. A willingness to take initiative and a drive to learn would be especially advantageous. A keen eye for design, excellent writing and verbal skills, and an interest in the mission of Opportunity@Work are important.

You will:

  • Assist in executing communications plans involving social media, graphic design, digital production, marketing, events, and branding.
  • Produce material for Opportunity@Work’s Twitter and Facebook pages as well as the Opportunity@Work and TechHire website.
  • Support design and production of Opportunity@Work and TechHire collateral, including, but not limited to social media graphics, infographics, brochures, and flyers.
  • Assist with the organization of local and national events, and provide administrative support when needed.

With an emphasis on advancing the skills of Rhode Island workers and supporting a sustainable tech economy,  our work focuses on outreach to job seekers, community and education partners as well as engaging employers in the growing tech. About the Role:

As a Community Engagement Manager,  you will be supporting Opportunity@Work’s efforts to support and power Rhode Island communities. The primary focus of this role is to facilitate development of strong ecosystems that support job seekers along the continuum from learning skills in tech occupations to being hired based on those skills. This role will report to the Project Director in our Rhode Island office.

You will:

  • Develop strong relationships with community leaders and key stakeholders, facilitating local community building. Organize and facilitate broad outreach to community and education partners.
  • Work closely with the TechHire Pathways team on executing our engagement strategy working with communities and stakeholders, including civic leaders, education and training institutions, businesses and tech companies.
  • Track engagement and key performance indicators and share progress and achievement of milestones with the rest of the team.
  • Develop a work plan to build and sustain organizational relationships to ensure successful outreach efforts. Identify/review/update criteria for communities based on most current information - and determine a core set of interventions.
  • Support community leaders in identifying goals for number of job seekers supported through employment and the strategy necessary to achieve those goals.
  • Troubleshoot and identify necessity for deeper engagement of the Opportunity@Work leadership team with communities
  • Supports development and adoption of best practices and tools through open-source methods.
  • Promote training opportunities within local community college and university systems including presentation and information sessions.
  • Coordinate with the communications team to share success stories and case studies with the network and key audiences.
  • Help plan and execute community activities, in collaboration with communities, strategic partners, and the Opportunity@Work communications team on event promotion.
  • Support Opportunity@Work’s communications team in local outreach efforts;
  • Work closely with a fast moving team bringing a new product to market, our inclusive hiring platform TechHire.Careers.

About the Role:

The Customer Success team at Opportunity@Work is responsible for the customer journey and success for employers , job seekers, training providers and volunteers as they use Opportunity@Work solutions for skills-based hiring. As a key member, the Customer Success Manager will be instrumental in building a new team at the intersection of customer onboarding, platform operations, learning management and service delivery.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support and manage development and implementation of Opportunity@Work’s success plans inclusive of customer objectives, stakeholders, milestones, risks and metrics needed to achieve them.

About the Role:

You will be on the ground floor of establishing a data system and building logic and business rules for data integration of Opportunity@Work’s business units and users/customers. You will be responsible for the ongoing support of data development as it relates to data requirements, data analysis, data testing, extract development and overall support of data integration, quality processes and automation initiatives for reporting data.  As part of supporting a small and growing team and company, you will aim to find meaning in the data we have, plus go out and get the data we don’t.
 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Set up a data system from the ground up, establishing business rules, use, and maintenance processes.
  • Execute data migrations and a data quality program focused on completeness, standardization, and deduplication
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and processes to continuously monitor data quality, integrity, validity and reliability
  • Proactively identify and implement data improvements, enhancements, and system customizations that meet business requirements

About the Role:

As a growing social enterprise, we’re eager to design and implement a repeatable, scalable, and effective way to bring clarity and consistency to how we create, use, share, manage, and monitor information in our organization.  The Knowledge Management Specialist will have proven experience designing scalable frameworks and processes for managing and organizing information across multiple teams.

This is a part-time (maximum 30 hours/week) contract role for at least 4-6 months.
