TechHire Community Action Summit

Baltimore, MD (November 17, 2015)

Opportunity@Work hosted the TechHire Community Action Summit in Baltimore on November 17, 2015 where over 500 people representing 30 TechHire communities from across the country convened to share best practices for expanding local networks and and creating new accelerated pathways to real IT jobs in demand.  Senior level Administration officials, including US Secretary of Labor Tom Perez and US Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith, were present to announce new federal and local opportunities related to economic development, technology, and the workforce, including a $100 million TechHire grant competition. TechHire communities shared ideas for building a successful TechHire ecosystem, to include tried and true practices for partnership building and employer and job seeker outreach.  The one-day event was attended by business leaders from across industry, as well as best-in-class training and hiring onramps, higher education institutions, workforce development organizations, elected officials, and young people.
